The Fitzgerald sisters, Brigitte and Ginger (Emily Perkins, Katherine Isabelle) aren't exactly the most popular girls in school. They're Gothic and moody, have suicidal tendencies, and delight in photographic essays in which they stage their own deaths. Who wouldn't want to be friends with them? Perhaps even more disturbing than the death fixation, though, is their mother's (Mimi Rogers) obsession with the girls' yet-to-appear menstrual cycles. |

Ginger snaps unleashed
Brigitte Fitzgerald (Emily Perkins) does not wish to transform into the hideous werewolf her sister Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) became in the original Ginger Snaps. When Ginger cut both her and her sister's hands, then clasped their wounds together, Brigitte contracted her sister's affliction. Brigitte has to take an antidote via injections to keep from transforming into a beast, but when she takes too much, she collapses and comes to in a rehabilitation clinic. Found on the street, Brigitte was mistaken for a junkie and taken to the lock down facility. Without regular doses of the antidote, her transformation begins to accelerate, and she attracts the attention of Ghost (Tatiana Maslany), an odd 14-year-old at the clinic, as well as the beast, who is drawn by the attraction of a female that is turning into a creature like him. |

Da Vinci's inquest (Season 1)
One of the most successful Canadian drama series of the late 1990s, Da Vinci's Inquest was also one of the CBC's slickest efforts -- not to mention one of the most realistic. Nicholas Campbell starred as Dominic Da Vinci, a former cop who worked as a police coroner in Vancouver. Like Quincy before him, Da Vinci used his official capacity to right wrongs, help those in distress, and in general boldly go where the "regular" cops feared to tread. In this he was assisted by a number of friends, business associates, and family members, who frequently found themselves in jeopardy, obligating the hero to effect a last-minute escape. Compared by some critics to the American TVer Homicide (albeit with a bit more melodrama), the series was created by Chris Haddock, who also wrote many of the 60-minute teleplays. |
